How to create great content
I’ve been in the content creating industry for over a decade and thought I knew everything I needed to know about visuals and narratives! I was humbled when a quick GOOGLE search ranked my site as pretty much NO WHERE TO BE FOUND.
I’ve come to realize that there are (many) layers to content creation, and though having a beautiful site is certainly one of them, it is not the only thing!
I’m a little embarrassed to even admit this, but I once believed that the problem with my site was my content, and so I spent hours making unnecessary changes to a site that simply lacked visibility.
Being one that enjoys results and quantifiable data, I started to dig deep.
*KEYWORDS AND SEO ENTER THE CHAT *
The mission was to find ways to improve traffic to my site, without having to place all my eggs in one basket. The basket I’m referring to is social media.
My findings were a combination of 3 key factors. Good content. Great keywords, and unbelievable strategy! And by strategy, I mean SEO ( search engine optimization) -
So how does one create GOOD CONTENT?
By creating content that can be found by those looking for what you have to offer … Without them knowing they are looking for you!
STORYTIME.
Years ago, shortly, after giving birth to my now ten year old daughter, I wrote a blog post entitled OATMEAL WATER, HOW TO INCREASE YOUR BREAST MILK SUPPLY.
That blog post went viral and was featured on several maternity sites. Who remembers babycenter.com ? They were one of them! That article opened the door to partnerships and collaborations. Something I wrote 10 years ago I’m still profiting from today because of relationships I formed thanks to OATMEAL WATER.
Why did it go viral? It went viral because the blog’s title was optimized for search engines like GOOGLE. I didn’t know that at the time.
Moms were looking for ways to increase their milk supply, and I had the answer they needed.
I’ve since deleted the post, because I made some changes to my site. Had I known what I know now, you better believe that post would still be there.
So, the answer to creating good content, is to create with intentionality! Be strategic with your (key)words. If you’re a business, have a blog on your website, if you have a blog right now, go back and update the keywords , something as simple as changing your post’s title can change the visibility and traffic to your blog, your site, your business.
There are about 5.4 billion GOOGLE searches a day! Your next partnerships, client may not be on social media.
This is not to say you should not use social media… you absolutely should!
What I am saying is be open to other ways to bring your awesome content to the world!
Hope this gave you a bit of insight on how to create. Next week, we will tackle the tools I use to find keywords and improve SEO!

Creatively yours,
